Full Time Director of Safety, Security and Training

Salary Range (based on education and experience): 

$60,000 to $70,000

 Reports directly to the General Manager.  High school diploma or GED required, two years of college preferred.  Prior management or supervisory experience; three years’ transportation, safety, security or related experience preferred.  Knowledge of Federal and State rules and regulations regarding safety and security issues is preferred.  Must be able to communicate effectively with co-workers and the public.  Experience with personal computer equipment necessary.  Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.

  • Daily oversight and administration of MITS’ Agency Safety Plan and Security and Emergency Preparedness Plan, including monitoring and enforcing implementation of the plans to ensure FTA compliance and attainment of MITS’ safety and security related goals and objectives.
  • Ensures that the policies, procedures and requirements described in the “MITS Agency Safety Plan” are followed by management, maintenance and operations personnel to provide a safe environment for MITS employees, customers and the general public.
  • Identifies best safety and security practices and leads continuous improvement initiatives to reduce risks, raise awareness and improve safe/secure work conditions.
  • Facilitates the Safety Team to identify on-going safety and security issues, analyzes the problems, develops appropriate solutions and initiate corrective actions.
  • Communicates safety and security and emergency preparedness as top priorities to all employees.
  • Develops and enforces safety and security procedures and regulations. Organizes and implements safety and security and emergency response training programs for all employees.
  • Performs safety and security audits of all facilities and equipment.
  • Acts as liaison with various health and safety agencies in Delaware County
  • Oversees employee training and retraining, including but not limited to CDL training and certification, blood borne pathogen training, drug and alcohol awareness and passenger relations.
  • Develops and monitors policies and procedural guidelines to reduce liability exposure from employee injuries, vehicle collisions, and public safety issues.
  • Promotes on-going risk assessments and prescribes injury prevention measures to eliminate risk in workplace and risk taking behavior of employees.
  • Monitors and performs root cause analysis of vehicle accidents, workers compensation and insurance claims. Tracks trending of key performance indicators and directs improvement efforts in all categories related to employee safety.
  • Monitors, incidents, accidents, and work-related injuries including accident investigation, accident reports, accident files, accident register, and follows up with the claims office and adjusters as necessary. Typically determines fault or prevent-ability based on the facts identified at the scene.  Provides post-accident counseling with drivers.  Retrains drivers as necessary.
  • Provides various reports and analyzes, including safety trends. Develops cost saving recommendations.
  • Plans, schedules and conducts quarterly safety meetings based on MITS safety and safety training goals and objectives.
  • Facilitates accident review committees to determine preventability of accidents.
  • Facilitates employee morale through safety award programs, conducting safety competitions, development seminars, and general leadership, etc.
  • Performs driver road checks of driver performance.
  • Establish written system security plans and emergency operations/response plans.
  • Define roles and responsibilities for security and emergency preparedness.
  • Ensure that operations and maintenance supervisors and managers are held accountable for security issues under their control.
  • Coordinate security and emergency operations/response plans with local and regional agencies.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as required/assigned.
  • Conducts follow-up operator training reviews.
  • Participates in security and emergency response exercises.
